Mina Protocol is a groundbreaking blockchain technology that aims to revolutionize the way we approach decentralized applications (dApps) and blockchain scalability. Unlike traditional blockchains, Mina is designed to be a "succinct blockchain," meaning its size remains constant regardless of the growth in usage and network activity. Mina's architecture consists of three major participant roles: verifiers, block producers, and snarkers. Verifiers are the users who interact with the zk-SNARKs to certify the consensus information, while block producers (akin to miners or stakers) are responsible for bundling transactions into blocks and earning block rewards and transaction fees. Snarkers, on the other hand, are specialized participants who generate the zk-SNARKs used in verifying transactions, and they are compensated by the block producers. The Mina protocol employs the Ouroboros Samasika, a custom-designed Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism that provides bootstrapping from the genesis block, ensuring the network's security and decentralization. Additionally, Mina utilizes a parallel scan state to optimize transaction processing speed, which works by grouping unproven blocks and assigning the verification process to parallel provers. By maintaining a constant blockchain size and leveraging the power of zk-SNARKs, Mina aims to address the scalability challenges faced by traditional blockchains, enabling more efficient and accessible dApp development.
