StanChart Hong Kong shares fall after US lawmaker calls for probe

** Hong Kong shares of Standard Chartered 2888.HK (StanChart) fall 3.9% to HK$141.7, their lowest since August 6, and on course for a third straight session of decline

** Stock on track for the biggest one-day pct drop since April 7 if current losses hold

** Second-biggest pct loser on the Hang Seng Composite Index tracking financial stocks .HSCIF, which is down 0.2%

** UK-listed stock STAN.L closed 7.2% lower on Friday

** U.S. Republican lawmaker Elise Stefanik wrote to the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, asking for a probe to be launched into Standard Chartered, claiming the bank was involved in sanctions evasion

** Standard Chartered said in a statement that the underlying allegations in a long-running civil case were "entirely false" and had been rejected by U.S. courts multiple times

** The Attorney General's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment

** The Hang Seng Finance Index .HSNF slips 0.4%, while the benchmark Hang Seng Index .HSI gains 0.3%

** YTD, Hong Kong stock up 50.9%, UK shares up 32.1%
