THIN NEW YEAR'S EVE TRADING
Activity looked extremely thin on New Year's Eve, with many traders on holiday and some bourses, including Frankfurt and Zurich, shut for the day.
Moves were muted across country benchmarks and sectors.
The region-wide STOXX 600 .STOXX index was barely budging, up 0.05%. London's FTSE .FTSE and Paris's CAC .FCHI were also little changed ahead of an early close of trading.
Energy .SXEP and mining .SXPP stocks were the biggest movers, although they rose just 0.2-0.3% as metal and oil prices gained following data showing China's manufacturing activity expanded in December.
