Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Support Services, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which rose 4.07% or 27.60 points to trade at 706.60 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) added 2.28% or 48.00 points to end at 2,152.00 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 1.96% or 11.80 points to 613.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which lost 20.06% or 95.40 points to trade at 380.10 in late trade. Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:SWR) declined 2.10% or 70.00 points to end at 3,272.00 and Howden Joinery Group Plc (LON:HWDN) shed 1.83% or 17.50 points to 938.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1095 to 663 and 713 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 1.45 to $2,544.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.25% or 1.48 to hit $67.23 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.78% or 1.23 to trade at $70.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 101.66.
