BRASILIA/SAO PAULO, July 30 (Reuters) - The Brazilian government said on Wednesday in a statement signed by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that it remains willing to negotiate with the United States on trade, but that will not give up on tools to defend itself under national law.
The statement called the use of "political arguments" to defend the tariffs announced by the U.S. against Brazil "unjustifiable." It also expressed solidarity with Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who was targeted by U.S. sanctions, calling them an "unacceptable" interference in Brazil's justice system.
Brazil added it is evaluating the impacts of the U.S. measures and readying actions to support and protect Brazilian workers, companies and families.
