BANGKOK, July 8 (Reuters) - Thailand's Finance Minister expressed surprise on Tuesday at a U.S. decision to place a 36% tariff on Thai goods, despite last-ditch negotiation efforts.
Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira told Channel 3 television a revised trade proposal from Thailand had not yet been considered by the U.S., but he remains confident the rate will be reduced. He said he expects trade talks between the two countries will be finalised before August 1.
