Aug 15 (Reuters) - Swiss economic growth likely slowed sharply in the second quarter, a preliminary estimate showed on Friday, as manufacturing stumbled just as U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies began to bite on the global economy.
A government estimate showed the Swiss economy grew by just 0.1% quarter-on-quarter in the April-June period, down from 0.8% in the previous three months, as a negative performance in industry was offset by gains in the service sector.
Trump unveiled a raft of tariffs against U.S. trade partners at the start of April. Much of their force was suspended for 90 days, but Trump this month set some of the highest tariffs worldwide on Switzerland, auguring ill for the third quarter.
The Swiss quarterly growth estimate was adjusted for seasonal swings and the impact of sporting events.
Full Swiss data for the second quarter are due to be published on August 28, the government said.
