EU's Sefcovic says he discussed US steel tariffs with US trade representative
PARIS, June 4 (Reuters) - European Union trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic told reporters on Wednesday that he discussed with U.S. trade representative Jamieson Greer the U.S. decision to levy 50% tariffs on steel and aluminium, telling him that he strongly regretted the move and that it does not help trade talks.
Sefcovic, who added that the EU has the same challenge - overcapacity - as the United States on steel, said he still believed in the negotiations with Washington but that Brussels remained ready to defend its interests.
