Ethereum Classic

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform that serves as the original version of Ethereum, which was launched in 2015. Like Ethereum, Ethereum Classic allows developers to build and deploy decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts. However, the two networks have diverged in philosophy and development over time. Ethereum Classic is based on the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus algorithm, which is considered the most secure consensus mechanism known to date. This makes Ethereum Classic a "sound money" cryptocurrency, as the cost to produce the currency is the same as the cost to produce the blocks, and it has a fixed monetary policy with a supply cap of 210,700,000 ETC. Ethereum Classic's unique attributes also include its full replication across all nodes of the network, which enhances security, and its composability, where all applications enabled by programmability are inside the same system, making them equally secure and able to interact with each other in single complex transactions. The size and scale of Ethereum Classic, as the largest smart contracts blockchain that is proof-of-work and has a fixed monetary policy, also contribute to its security and robustness.
