Aptos

Aptos is a cutting-edge Layer 1 Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain that has been designed to bring mainstream adoption to the world of Web3. Developed by a team of seasoned experts, including former employees of Meta (formerly Facebook), Aptos aims to empower an ecosystem of decentralized applications (DApps) to tackle real-world user problems. At the heart of Aptos is a novel smart contract programming language called Move, which was independently developed by the Diem blockchain engineers. This Rust-based language offers advantages over the widely-used Solidity, including enhanced verifiability, modular design, and the ability to modify private keys. These features enable Aptos to provide improved security and flexibility for developers, ultimately leading to a better user experience. One of the standout features of Aptos is its exceptional transaction throughput. Through the use of a parallel execution engine, known as Block-STM, Aptos can theoretically process over 150,000 transactions per second (tps), far surpassing the capabilities of Ethereum's mainnet, which typically handles around 12-15 tps. This high-performance is achieved by executing all transactions simultaneously and validating them afterward, with failed transactions either re-executed or aborted, thanks to the blockchain's software transactional memory libraries.
