NRG Energy rises on $12 billion deal with LS Power

Shares of U.S. utility NRG Energy NRG.N rise 6.4% to $126.99 premarket

Company says it will acquire natural gas generation facilities and a virtual power plant from LS Power in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $12 billion

The deal includes $6.4 bln in cash, $2.8 bln in stock to LS Power and $3.2 bln of net debt, less about $0.4 billion of tax benefits generated directly as a result of the transaction

Deal expected to close in the first quarter of 2026

NRG says deal will double its capacity to 25 gigawatt (GW), adding 18 natural gas-fired facilities totaling 13 GW across key markets in the Northeast and Texas
