- European shares were flat in choppy trading on Tuesday, as rising healthcare and financial shares offset broader losses arising from uncertainty related to U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed tariff measures following his inauguration.

The pan-European STOXX 600 .STOXX held steady at 524.15 points by 0825 GMT.

Financial services .SXFP gained 0.4%, boosted by a 7.7% jump in abrdn ABDN.L after the British asset manager swung to net inflows in the fourth quarter.

Heavyweight healthcare .SXDP added 0.4%, with drugmaker Novo Nordisk NOVOb.CO gaining 1.5%.

Donald Trump did not immediately impose any tariffs on day one, but revealed plans to reverse the U.S. trade deficit with the European Union, either with tariffs or more energy exports.

Automakers .SXAP came under pressure, falling 0.9%. Trump revoked a 2021 executive order that sought to ensure half of all new vehicles sold in the United States by 2030 were electric.

Orsted ORSTED.CO tumbled 15.3% after the offshore wind developer posted an impairment charge of 12.1 billion Danish crowns ($1.69 billion) related to its U.S. offshore portfolio.

Other wind power stocks including Vestas Wind Systems VWS.CO and Nordex SE NDXG.DE fell 4.7% and 3.6%, respectively, after Trump suspended new federal offshore wind leasing pending an environmental and economic review.
