MADRID, April 7 (Reuters) - Spain's flag carrier Iberia, a unit of International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) ICAG.L, has resumed flights between Madrid and Caracas, ending a suspension that began in November as U.S.–Venezuela tensions escalated.
A company spokesperson said on Tuesday the airline would operate four weekly flights, one fewer than before the suspension.
Spanish carriers Air Europa and Plus Ultra resumed flights to Venezuela in February and early March, respectively.
Iberia was among several airlines that halted flights to and from the country after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration warned of a "potentially hazardous situation" for civil aviation due to heightened military and political risks.
Following the U.S. operation in which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was captured on January 3 and transferred to New York to face drug‑trafficking charges, Washington began working to reopen Venezuela's airspace and remove restrictions affecting international airlines.
