Canada's federal government will spend nearly C$35 billion ($25.58 billion) to upgrade military installations in the North aimed at defending against threats to North America and asserting territorial sovereignty in the Arctic, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced in Yellowknife on Thursday.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will arrive on Friday and spend three days in Norway, meeting Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, watching a North Atlantic Treaty Organization military exercise in the country's far north, and holding talks with leaders from Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden.
