No cause for US trade investigation of Norway, says Norwegian minister

ReutersMar 12, 2026 3:09 PM

- There is no cause for the United States to investigate Norway's trade practices, the Nordic country's industry minister said on Thursday, responding to an announcement by the administration of President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Norway was one of a wide range of nations subject to an excess-capacity probe under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

"We fundamentally see no basis for such an investigation," Norway's Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth said in a statement to Reuters, adding that the Nordic country would await the outcome of the U.S. probe.

"Our industrial policy is transparent... Norway's trade with the United States is balanced," she said.
