WASHINGTON, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Donald Trump is urging Democrats not to shut down the federal government over immigration enforcement funding, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday, adding the Republican president had sought to de-escalate the crackdown in Minnesota.
"President Trump has brought down the temperature on the situation. He's in constant contact, and he is urging them not to shut down the government," Bessent told CNBC in an interview. He said he did not know what to expect with U.S. government funding set to expire at the end of this week.
