BERLIN, Jan 28 (Reuters) - The foundations for the ratification of an EU-U.S. trade deal is in place as long as Washington honours its commitments, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Wednesday.
"After the U.S. president's threats to raise tariffs again, I expect that now the foundations have been laid for this agreement to come into force," said Merz, adding, however, that the U.S. must not cast any doubt on what had been agreed.
"We are not prepared to accept a deterioration of this agreement," said Merz at a press conference with his Romanian counterpart.
