Trump says US won't help Iraq if it picks Maliki as prime minister

Jan 27 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the United States would no longer help Iraq if the Middle East nation picks Nouri al-Maliki as its prime minister.
"Last time Maliki was in power, the Country descended into poverty and total chaos. That should not be allowed to happen again," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The alliance of Shi'ite political blocs that holds a majority in Iraq's parliament picked former prime minister Maliki as its nominee for the post, it announced last week.
