Fourth seed Novak Djokovic started his bid for a 25th Grand Slam title with a 6-3 6-2 6-2 win over Spain's Pedro Martinez. The Serbian will play Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli in the second round.
1212 RUUD BREEZES PAST BELLUCCI
Three-times Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud beat Italian Mattia Bellucci 6-1 6-2 6-4. The Norwegian 12th seed will take on Spaniard Jaume Munar in the second round.
1016 SWIATEK BATTLES PAST YUAN
Six-times Grand Slam winner and Polish world number two Iga Swiatek dug deep to beat Chinese qualifier Yuan Yue 7-6(5) 6-3 and set up a second-round clash with Czech Marie Bouzkova.

Russian world number seven Mirra Andreeva overcame a first-set stumble to beat Croatia's Donna Vekic 4-6 6-3 6-0. The 18-year-old eighth seed faces Greece's former world number three Maria Sakkari in the second round.

World number six De Minaur is looking to improve on his quarter-final run last year -- and to climb the rankings.

Portugal's Nuno Borges moved into the second round after Felix Auger-Aliassime retired from their match with what seemed like a thigh injury.
