Australia's treasurer supports central bank chief's decision to sign Powell statement

SYDNEY, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Australia's Treasurer Jim Chalmers said on Friday that he thought central bank Governor Michele Bullock's decision to sign a statement in support of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell was "appropriate".
"I know Jay Powell," said Chalmers at a briefing. "He strikes me as a very professional, very diligent public servant in the United States."
