
Jan 15 (Reuters) - American Water Works AWK.N on Thursday said it will invest $46 billion to $48 billion over the next 10 years to upgrade its water and wastewater systems to cut leaks and improve efficiency and resilience.
In October, American Water agreed to buy Essential Utilities WTRG.N for about $63 billion, including debt, cementing its lead as the largest regulated water utility in the U.S.
Camden, New Jersey-based American Water said it uses advanced technologies such as acoustic sensors, drones, infrared imaging, and smart meters to detect leaks early and enhance system resilience and conservation.
American Water provides regulated drinking water and wastewater services to residential, commercial and industrial customers across 14 U.S. states and several military installations.
