Jan 9 (Reuters) - Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Friday that she had tasked her foreign minister to take steps to improve communication with the U.S. government, one day after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened land strikes in Mexico.
"Yesterday, I asked Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente to make direct contact with the (U.S.) Secretary of State and, if necessary, speak with President Trump to strengthen coordination," Sheinbaum said during her morning press conference.
Trump said in an interview on Fox News on Thursday that the U.S. was "going to start now hitting land," claiming that drug cartels are running Mexico.
