PARIS, Jan 9 (Reuters) - France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Friday the United States had the right to rethink its ties with its European allies but it was also their right to say no if the U.S. made an unacceptable proposal.
"In just a few months, the new U.S administration has decided to rethink the ties that bind us. That is its right. And it is also our right to say no to an historic ally, however historic it may be, when its proposal is unacceptable," Barrot said in an annual speech to French ambassadors.
The White House has said that President Donald Trump was discussing options for acquiring Greenland, including potential use of the U.S. military, in a revival of his ambition to control the strategic island despite European objections.
