OTTAWA, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Canadian Identity and Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault resigned from cabinet on Thursday over a disagreement with a deal Prime Minister Mark Carney's government signed with the oil-producing province of Alberta to roll back certain climate rules to spur investment in energy production.
"Despite this difficult economic context, I remain one of those for whom environmental issues must remain front and center. That is why I strongly oppose the memorandum of understanding between the federal government and the government of Alberta," Guilbeault said in a statement on X.
Guilbeault, who was the environment minister in the previous Liberal government led by Justin Trudeau, will remain a member of parliament.
