- A startup that creates artificial intelligence-powered courtroom simulations has sued one of its co-founders in California federal court for allegedly stealing its trade secrets.

Juries.ai told a court in San Jose on Monday that Vincent Sheu took confidential information including source code and business strategies to build a competitor after the company fired him.

"These allegations are unfounded, and I am confident that the facts will make that clear," Sheu said in a statement on Tuesday. "While I entirely reject the claims made, I remain committed to resolving this amicably and quickly to the satisfaction of all parties."

Spokespeople and attorneys for Juries.ai did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit on Tuesday.

Juries.ai is part of a wave of lawyer-focused generative AI startups that have together raised hundreds of millions of dollars from investors during the ongoing artificial intelligence boom.

New York-based Juries.ai's platform uses artificial intelligence to simulate jury decision-making, "allowing litigation teams a private way to battle-test their case before it matters most," according to the complaint. Juries.ai said that Sheu co-founded the company in April and was responsible for product development and technical aspects of the platform.

The lawsuit said the startup terminated Sheu in October, and that "although Mr. Sheu presented himself as an AI expert capable of building the Juries.ai platform, he did not significantly contribute to the advancement of Juries.ai's product."

According to the complaint, Sheu has refused to return the company's confidential information, interfered with a company patent application and approached Juries.ai investors to pitch a "substantially identical" platform.

Juries.ai requested a court order to block Sheu from misusing its trade secrets and unspecified monetary damages.

The case is Juries.ai Inc v. Sheu, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, No. 5:25-cv-10188.
