Escalating tensions with US over tariffs would have been imprudent given security risks, says EU's Costa
BRUSSELS, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Escalating tensions with the United States over tariffs would have been an imprudent risk to take while Europe's eastern borders remained under threat, European Council President Antonio Costa said on Monday.
"That is why ... we chose diplomacy over escalation. We gave space to dialogue, we chose restraint because we are responsible," he added, speaking at the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia.
