Peace in Ukraine requires ceasefire, pressure on Russia, Italy says
ROME, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Wednesday a unity of views emerged from calls with allies that peace in Ukraine requires a ceasefire and continued pressure on Russia, including via sanctions, a statement said.
European leaders including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy held a call with U.S. President Donald Trump in a bid to influence his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, the first U.S.-Russia summit since 2021.
