July 28 (Reuters) - New York City Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday there was an "active shooter" investigation underway in central Manhattan, while the FBI added it was also providing support at what it called an active crime scene.
There was large police presence in the area, according to media footage.
NBC News said police were responding to a reported active shooter incident in which at least one person was shot. The report cited sources.
"There is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now," Adams said in a statement on social media platform X.
The New York City Police Department said there was police activity in the area but did not provide further details on the incident.
