US House Republicans meeting with Fed's Powell canceled, Semafor reports

WASHINGTON, July 16 (Reuters) - Republicans on the House Financial Services Committee were expected to meet with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell later on Wednesday, but the meeting has since been canceled, a Semafor reporter said on X.
President Donald Trump earlier told reporters he is not planning to fire Powell . Trump said he had spoken with some Republican lawmakers about firing the Fed chairman, but that he was more conservative about the idea than they were.
