July 9 - (The Insurer) - A survey released on Thursday by insurance consultancy Gracechurch has named Atrium's Bassel Matta as the market's top-ranked underwriter with Convex’s Dervla Lynchehaun named top female underwriter.
The annual London’s Leading Underwriter report is based on responses from over 400 brokers and underwriter interviews that generated nominations for around 700 individual underwriters across more than 120 nominated firms.
Matta topped this year's poll having finished second in 2024. MAP's Richard Trubshaw and Talbot’s Ollie Richards were ranked second and third, respectively, at this year's awards.
Trubshaw has previously won the award on a number of occasions, including last year when he was the only underwriter to poll above Matta.
At carrier level, Beazley has retained top spot for overall bench strength, with Hiscox leading the way for female nominations.
Ascot was named as fastest riser among insurance companies in this year's report, while Apollo was ranked as the leading outperformer.
Gracechurch managing director Ben Bolton said: “The leading underwriters in 2025 are more and more defined by their proven ability to develop and retain quality business in a super-competitive market.
“The modern leading underwriter does much more than pricing - they collaborate effectively with broking partners, tech partners and clients to help innovate and provide trusted solutions.”
