July 8 (Reuters) - Cambodia on Tuesday hailed as a big success a reduction in a U.S. tariff rate from 49% to 36% and said it was seeking to negotiate a further reduction.
“There is chance that the tariffs will go down more and I would like to thank President Donald Trump for decreasing the rate for Cambodia, from 49 to 36," Deputy premier Sun Chanthol told reporters, appealing to the country's factories to "keep calm".
The tariffs have been an issue for Cambodia's garments and footwear sector, a major employer and the biggest driver of its economy.
