- (The Insurer) - Mapfre Re announced several leadership changes within its management team on Monday, including the appointment of Fernando Utrilla Agüero as deputy chief financial officer.

Utrilla Agüero had previously served as assistant general manager of group business at Mapfre Re. He is succeeded in this role by José López González, currently underwriting manager for Mapfre group retrocession.

Both will report to Miguel Rosa, CEO of Mapfre Re.

The appointments, which are effective from July 1, follow an update to Mapfre Re's organisational structure in February that had Javier San Basilio named general manager.

San Basilio had previously served as deputy general manager and chief underwriting officer.

Mapfre Re said this appointment was part of a wider restructure of the business designed to sharpen the reinsurer’s strategic focus, including further development of the life business, and a sharper strategic, commercial and technical focus.

Under the new structure, Mapfre Re’s non-group business is organised through two lines, non-life underwriting and life business, led by Carmen Bueso and Maite González, respectively.

Mapfre Re also announced on Monday that Jose Manuel Inchausti will join as director and chairman of Mapfre Re on September 6, succeeding Esteban Tejera, who will step down after reaching the statutory age limit for board membership.
