June 17 - (The Insurer) - Liberty Mutual’s president of insurance solutions Liz Geary is joining Tokio Marine HCC as its new North America P&C president and CEO, reporting to the insurer’s CEO Susan Rivera.
A Tokio Marine HCC spokesperson confirmed Geary would take up her new role on June 30 and be based in New York City.
Geary, who will be responsible for North American growth and leadership at Tokio Marine HCC, joined Liberty Mutual nearly three years ago and has been serving as interim chief underwriting officer for North America Specialty since April.
At Liberty, Geary was responsible for the launch and development of a new organization, focused on proactively managing brokers’ and clients’ evolving risk needs with a focus on cyber, energy transition and alternative risk solutions.
A spokesperson for Liberty declined to comment on the departure of Geary, who previously spent nearly 20 years at TransRe in roles such as global head of cyber, chief underwriting officer for North America and president of global portfolio management.
“Appointing Liz to the new role of President & CEO of our North America P&C business units is a statement of intent for our business,” Rivera said in a statement, adding: “As TMHCC continues to expand and evolve ... We will need to attract the leading talent in the market who share our specialized focus and approach.”
Geary’s appointment follows Barry Cook’s promotion last month to the role of deputy CEO, with Tokio Marine HCC saying that the business has continued to evolve and expand its leadership to maintain its growth momentum.
“Tokio Marine HCC’s North American business has become a market leader in its chosen sectors and its specialty insurance reputation is second to none,” Geary said in a statement.
“I am delighted to be joining Susan and her team and look forward to helping the business realize its profitable growth ambitions in North America while providing market-leading solutions for our brokers and insureds,” Geary said.
Geary joined Liberty Mutual as part of a wave of hires in 2022, which also included Brandon Fick from Zurich North America, Julia Chu from Markel and Kevin Smith from CNA.
