June 11 - (The Insurer) - Colorado State University has forecast an above-normal 2025 Atlantic Basin hurricane season, predicting 17 named storms and nine hurricanes between June 1 and November 30.
The forecast numbers remain unchanged from CSU's April outlook.
Of these hurricanes, four are expected to be major hurricanes, according to CSU's June 11 forecast update.
The tropical Pacific currently exhibits ENSO neutral conditions, which CSU expects to persist throughout the season.
Sea surface temperatures in the eastern and central Atlantic are warmer than average, although not as warm as last year at this time. A warmer-than-normal tropical Atlantic, combined with likely ENSO neutral conditions, typically creates a favorable environment for hurricane formation and intensification.
CSU said that it anticipates an above-average probability of major hurricanes making landfall along the continental U.S. coastline and in the Caribbean.
