Markel hires Aon's Chang as Asia Pacific head

June 9 - (The Insurer) - Markel Insurance has appointed Sucheng Chang as managing director for Asia Pacific, the company said on Monday.

Chang will join on July 14 and head up Markel International's Asia Pacific business.

He most recently served as CEO for Hong Kong at Aon. He previously spent more than 13 years at Liberty Mutual in roles including chief distribution officer for Global Retail Markets East and CEO of Liberty Insurance Singapore.

Chang replaces Christian Stobbs, who announced in April that he would be returning to the UK following six years based in Asia.

Under Stobbs' leadership, Markel said its Asia Pacific operation had grown from a $40 million gross written premium business to one that will hit $250 million by year-end.
