1812 ALCARAZ SURVIVES SHELTON TEST

Current French Open champion and Spanish second seed Carlos Alcaraz struggled to overcome American Ben Shelton, taking over three hours to eventually win 7-6(8) 6-3 4-6 6-4 and reach the quarter-finals.

1613 SABALENKA TAKES DOWN ANISIMOVA

World number one Aryna Sabalenka advanced past American 16th seed Amanda Anisimova 7-5 6-3 to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

The top seed will face Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, seeded eighth, next.

1428 SWIATEK SURVIVES RYBAKINA TEST

Defending champion Iga Swiatek survived a first-set scare to battle past Elena Rybakina 1-6 6-3 7-5 and set up a last-eight encounter with Elina Svitolina.

Kazakhstan's 12th seed, who went 5-0 up in the first set, snapped Swiatek's streak of 17 consecutive sets won in Paris.

Rybakina was then 2-0 ahead in the second before Swiatek broke back to level and progressed to force the decider.

The third set went with the serve until the Pole, who on Saturday celebrated her 24th birthday, broke to take a 4-3 lead and eventually clinch a quarter-final spot.

1417 ZHENG MOVES PAST SAMSONOVA

Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen beat 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova 7-6(5) 1-6 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Chinese eighth seed will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka or American 16th seed Amanda Anisimova for a last-four spot.

Ukrainian 13th seed Elina Svitolina beat last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini, seeded fourth, 4-6 7-6(6) 6-1 to reach the French Open quarter-finals.

Svitolina saved three match points before taking the second-set tiebreak. She raced into a 4-0 lead in the decider, briefly wobbled as Italian Paolini got on the board, but quickly regained control to produce a commanding finish.

Earlier this year, Svitolina knocked Paolini out in the third round of the Australian Open.

1104 PAUL THROUGH TO QUARTER-FINALS

American 12th seed Tommy Paul beat Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-3 6-3 6-3 in under two hours to reach the French Open quarter-finals for the first time in his career. He is the first American male player to reach this stage of the tournament in 22 years.
