May 23 (Reuters) - The United States on Friday issued a general license providing some sanctions relief to Syria, according to the Treasury Department’s website.
U.S. President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement last week during a trip to the Middle East that he would order the lifting of sanctions on Syria’s Islamist-led government at the behest of Saudi Arabia's crown prince, a major U.S. policy shift he made before meeting briefly with Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Riyadh.
