Zelenskiy says Ukraine returned 390 people in exchange with Russia

KYIV, May 23 (Reuters) - President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Friday that Ukraine had returned 390 people from Russian captivity as the first stage of a 1000 for 1000 exchange agreed with Russia in Istanbul.
Zelenskiy said he expected the exchange to continue on Saturday and Sunday.
Russia had said earlier that it had exchanged 270 Ukrainian soldiers and 120 civilians in return for the same quantities of its own.
"It is very important to return everyone who is in captivity. We are checking every surname, information on every person," Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram.
"We will continue our diplomatic work to make such steps possible," he added.
