Germany's Merz says NATO ready to defend every inch of territory

VILNIUS, May 22 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Thursday during a visit to Vilnius that anyone who challenged NATO must know that the defence alliance is prepared and will jointly defend every inch of territory.
"We must do everything to defend ourselves – so that we never have to," Merz said at a ceremony marking the establishment of a German brigade to be deployed there, adding members knew the seriousness of the situation and their responsibilities.
