McGavick returns to industry as AI platform chairman

May 13 - (The Insurer) - Former XL Group CEO Mike McGavick has returned to the insurance industry as chairman and strategic advisor of Mea Platform, an AI solution aimed at insurance transactions.
McGavick is the former CEO of XL Group (now Axa XL) and former chairman, president and CEO of Safeco Insurance.
He has also served as chairman of the Geneva Association and the American Insurance Association.
He joins Mea Platform, which aims to maximise value from the the industry's unstructured data and critical information that is currently locked inside proprietary formats and legacy systems.
Mea leverages proprietary and mass-market large language models, including GenAI and agentic AI workflows, to extract and adapt data, enabling efficient data flows across submissions, placements and claims.
"I’ve spent my career helping this industry evolve, and one of the most persistent obstacles has always been value from data," said McGavick.
"The (re)insurance industry has spent untold millions to use the data it has, structuring and confirming it, with frustration and nowhere near the promised outcomes. And painfully, these efforts are combined with the false promise of tech solutions that never quite deliver."
