US congratulates Germany's Merz on becoming chancellor

WASHINGTON, May 7 (Reuters) - Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday extended congratulations from the United States to Germany's Friedrich Merz after the conservative leader was elected chancellor.
"I know that we'll have a conversation with him in the next couple of days," Vance said at an event hosted by the Munich Security Conference in Washington.
