US presented trade agreement framework to Japan, Nikkei says

TOKYO, May 2 (Reuters) - U.S. tariff negotiators presented a framework for a trade agreement to their Japanese counterparts that was cautious of lowering tariffs on automobile, steel and aluminium, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Friday.
Japanese negotiators firmly opposed the U.S. proposal, the Nikkei said without citing sources.
