Russia says it sees Japan's planned military drills near border as provocation

MOSCOW, April 17 (Reuters) - Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday it regarded Japanese plans to hold military drills in proximity to the Russian border as a provocation and a threat to national security.
Japan's ambassador to Moscow had received a protest over the matter, the ministry said in a statement. "Russia reserves the right to take all necessary countermeasures in order to prevent threats to its security," it said.
