BHSI promotes three within North America casualty business

- (The Insurer) - Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has announced three promotions within its North America casualty business, spanning teams in Chicago and New York.

Matt Hale has been promoted to head of U.S. casualty underwriting operations. Based in Chicago, Hale will oversee BHSI’s regional casualty underwriting teams across the country and collaborate with Galan Riley, head of casualty for Canada, to align North American casualty strategies.

Hale joined BHSI in 2013 and most recently served as senior vice president.

Marcie Stephan, also based in Chicago, has been named head of casualty for the U.S. Central region. In her new role, she will lead casualty underwriting teams, excluding construction, in the Central U.S.

Stephan, like Hale, joined the company in 2013 and was most recently a senior vice president.

John Roe has been appointed head of North American construction. He will oversee construction casualty, construction professional liability and homebuilders liability.

Based in New York, Roe will lead BHSI’s U.S. construction underwriting team, working closely with Riley to align construction casualty strategies across the U.S. and Canada.

Roe also joined BHSI in 2013 and most recently served as senior vice president and head of casualty for the Eastern region.
