WASHINGTON, April 8 (Reuters) - A majority of the U.S. Senate voted on Tuesday to confirm Elbridge Colby, a former Department of Defense official known as a China hawk, as undersecretary of defense for policy, the Pentagon's number three post.
As voting continued, the tally was 54 to 40 in favor of confirming Republican President Donald Trump's nominee, exceeding the 51 yes votes needed for confirmation in the 100-member Senate.
