WTO says tariffs could bring contraction of 1% in global merchandise trade volumes

April 3 (Reuters) - The Director-General of the World Trade Organization said tariffs announced on April 2 by the United States along with those introduced at the start of 2025 could lead to an overall contraction of around 1% in global merchandise trade volumes in 2025.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said on Thursday that the organization is closely monitoring and analysing the measures announced by the United States.
