Feb 24 - (The Insurer) - Axa XL has confirmed the appointment of Simon Rees as CUO for North America programs, succeeding Chris Bressette.
The Insurer exclusively reported last week that Bressette is leaving the company and will be succeeded by Rees, who currently serves as chief reserving actuary for the Americas.
In a memo to staff on February 20, seen by The Insurer, Axa XL CFO Rainer Schoellhammer said that the company is “grateful” for the work Bressette did to build the firm’s programs business in the region and noted that the executive is leaving the company “to pursue other opportunities”.
Rees will assume his new role on April 1, reporting to Tim Whisler, head of wholesale solutions for the Americas.
Rees joined Axa XL in 2017 in London as head of reinsurance reserving for its international and London region. In 2021, he relocated to New York to take on the role of deputy chief actuary for the Americas before being promoted to chief actuary in 2022.
His prior experience includes roles at Canopius, Barbican, Fenchurch Associates, Travelers and Lloyd’s, among other firms.
“His expertise will be instrumental in strengthening our existing partnerships and evaluating and onboarding new programs as we focus on growth in this important segment of our business,” said Whisler.
