- (The Insurer) - Munich Re subsidiary New Reinsurance Company (NewRe) has named Iris Urban chief underwriting officer for its non-life business as of March 1, 2025.

In this role, Urban will oversee underwriting strategy and management as well as portfolio optimisation to drive sustainable growth and profitability across the company’s property and casualty operations.

She replaces Dirk Herrenpoth, who has left NewRe after more than four years with the company to take on a new opportunity within the wider Munich Re Group.

Urban has spent 25 years at Munich Re. Most recently, she served as CUO for P&C for the German market. She has also held senior underwriting management roles across various regions such as Japan, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Thomas Braune, CEO of NewRe, said: “NewRe is committed to advancing its position as a trusted leader in the property and casualty market, and the appointment of Iris Urban reinforces our dedication to underwriting excellence and client-focused solutions.

“Her wealth of experience and knowledge will be instrumental as we continue to successfully manage the non-life portfolio in these volatile times.“

NewRe is a Swiss reinsurer founded in Zurich in 1926. It became part of Munich Re Group in 1988 and posted gross written premiums of 6.3 billion euros in 2023.
