- The Treasury Department's inspector general said on Friday it began an audit of security controls for the U.S. government's payment system, the Associated Press reported, after Democratic senators expressed concern about the access given to President Donald Trump's aide Elon Musk and his staff.

Citing a letter it obtained from Loren J. Sciurba, Treasury’s deputy inspector general, the AP said the audit will review the past two years of transactions. The audit comes amid concerns over accountability for Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team.
