WASHINGTON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - There are 5,000 active-duty U.S. troops along the United States' border with Mexico, a senior U.S. military official said on Thursday, adding that he expected that number to grow.
General Gregory Guillot, the head of U.S. Northern Command, told lawmakers during a hearing that for now he did not see an impact on the readiness of the troops for other missions because of the border deployment.
